One step forward, two steps sidewards.
By: timmyg | October 18th, 2008Let me preface this post with this: Hodgson will be fired by Christmas.
We were lucky to get a point today, as fortune in the incarnation of the woodwork and the referee smiled upon us. And all our parts played like usual.
The defense solid and compact, with Schwarzer making some timely and key saves. Hangeland and Hughes are a formidable pair in the center, and Painstil’s dribbling skills are a revelation.
Our midfield was feast and famine, with Bullard making poor freekicks and corners (give the role back to Davies, please), Gera getting involved but not finishing, Murphy making silly passes, and Davies looking the shell of his former self. Dempsey challenging, but not in long enough to make a difference.
And our strikers were toothless, anonymous, controlled, and much too technical. By my watch, its been over one month and eight hours since the club last scored from open play. True, there have been several incidents where AJ, Zamz, Gera, or anyone else was a whisker away from scoring. But those moments came from a flash, not a steady buildup.
And Fulham was out-substituted, again.
As of tomorrow, unless Stoke keeps Tottenham at bay (which actually might happen, shockingly) Fulham will have scored the least goals in the league. Conversely only the big four have let in less goals than we have.
Oddly, I’m not worried about relegation because I expect big additions in January…whether Woy stays or not. WestHam will go broke soon enough, and Wigan are screwed once Zaki leaves. And there’s still Stoke City.
Or at least I keep telling myself these things.
