Lots of catching up to do…
By: timmyg | August 3rd, 2008Sorry about not posting anything about everything thats gone on when it/they actually occurred. There was a major shakeup at the job I just got recently, and the internet at my apartment has been really spotty. But lets recap the past week in case you missed anything…
Tuesday, 7/29
Fulham reserves took on Crystal Palace, and drew 0-0. Coach McKinlay threw out a lineup mixed with academy youngin’s and old hands. Alexey Smertin appeared for the club for the first time in over 5 months, with former Palace-ite Dougie Freedman having his testimonial match (not the facebook boy). Also, the away kit was unfurled and I gotta say…not a big fan. I normally like the split design, but the black/red just looks tackey.
Wednesday, 7/30
Frederik Stoor was signed, but is a great pickup. Although Painstil was already signed, and Volzy appears out the door (say it ain’t so, Mortiz!) acquiring the the Swedish International was a typical Woy signing — flew under the rader but will pay huge dividends. (Read: Hangleand, Nevland, et al). And the agitprop pr department at the Cottage compiled a sweet pre-season video.
Thursday, 7/31
McGod joins the Chicago Fire. And not a moment too soon. Oh, and Volzy won a community service award. C’mon Woy — you gotta keep him around!
Friday 8/1
Although announced as part of the JV lineup to face (mighty) Kingstonian Lee Cook was loaned back to QPR, “with a view to a permanent transfer.” What an absolute joke this player was — not one single premiership appearance, injured almost immediately after being signed, did nothing while loaned to Charlton, and now going back to the where he came. Thanks LS, yet another of your brilliant signings. Oh, and Niemi got injured. So don’t expect him to be sold anywhere anytime soon.
Saturday 8/2
A friendly match against the Brummies at St. Andrews, ended in a 1-1 draw. Davies scored on the day, as it seemed a tale of two halves. It seems that Woy has settled on his midfield, with Davies on the right, Murphy and Bullard in the center, and Gera on the left. And I gotta say I find nothing wrong with that.
Oh, and the AJ transfer saga is slowly becoming a debacle as the medical evidently didn’t end too well and now the club wants less money from Everton. Someone, please wake me when this silliness is over — I thought it ended with Marlon King, but the ghosts of Carew and Reyna keep rearing their ugly heads. Mamma mia.
