Looking around us
By: timmyg | April 16th, 2009Alright, so instead of investigating Barnes and Gray (tomorrow?), all the buzz of Europe talk on the blogs got me thinking: it may not be just Fulham’s call if they’re in or not. Although just a month left in the season, there’s still a lot of footy left to be played – and three other clubs in similar situations as us.
Lets look at our schedule: Boro (away), Stoke, Chelsea (away), Villa, Newcastle (away), Everton. Tricky, but could be worse. Two of those clubs are in the relegation zone, Everton doesn’t win at the Cottage and is practically already qualified for Europe, and there’s a SW London derby to boot.
Now let’s look at what Wigan, Spurs and WestHam got.
Wigan: Blackburn (away), Bolton, WBA (away), United, Stoke (away), Pompey. Already that appears the most manageable, but the Latics have only scored 5 goals since January.
Spurs: Newcastle, United (away), WBA, Everton (away), City, Pool (away). Perhaps the toughest, but Arry’s team has only lost 3 times since the New Year. We’ve lost twice that.
WestHam: Villa (away), Chelsea, Stoke (away), Pool, Everton (away), Boro. Hmm, quite difficult also. But, similar to Spurs, Spam has lost just twice since New Years – against Spurs and United. Yikes.
And what’s with everyone but Wigan playing Everton?
So really, Seventh spot is anyone’s game. But my bet is on the West Ham and the insufferable Spurs, who probably wont take the Europa League seriously for another year in a row. I don’t have much to base such a premonition on, other than a gut feeling.
I just hope Roy keeps us proud. He hasn’t failed yet.
