Gutted
By: Andrew | December 16th, 2007No team ever deserves to lose a game like Fulham did last night. Terrible, terrible loss. My only question is how much Newcastle paid the ref to make that decision. No way in Hell was that a penalty. Moments before, Dempsey had been brought down in the box in a similar manner and the ref waved play on. It was all too typical. Just when we thought we would get a point (and that was the fair result for both teams) a lightning bolt comes out of nowhere and we lose.
Sanchez needs to go and this should be his last game in charge. He’s instilled no confidence in the players. Look at the first half: we could barely string three passes together and no one looked confident on the ball. True we did play slightly better in the second half. Although the loss wasn’t Sanchez’s fault, he put the team in the situation to give away the penalty with poor fundamental coaching. Anyone could see that the strategy of booting it down the field and running doesn’t work in the Premiership! It may work in the Championship, and that’s where we’re heading if we keep this up.
Next week: absolute do or die. If Fulham wins, they will not be relegated. If they lose or draw they will be relegated. Wigan is a team Fulham should destroy but with Sanchez in charge, nothing’s certain. Fire Sanchez, get a couple signings in the transfer window and we should be all right. Anything else, and I fear the cliff edge is closer than we expected.
