Fulham 0-1 Stoke
By: timmyg | May 5th, 2010My lord that was awful.
No, not Fulham’s performance — Stoke’s. What high levels of tolerance their fans must have to support such dross. I don’t want to get all “Wenger” here and promote style over substance, but somewhere a line must be drawn.
Here’s a stat for you about the Potters today: their goalie Begovic was third in the team in total pass attempts. That’s right, their goalie had more passes (30) than 8 other Potters.
I would normally be upset over losing today and being doubled by such pitiful displays of thuggery, erm, football. Moreover, sadly, a top half finish seems unlikely and, to add insult to injury, we will be right below Stoke and Blackburn in the table should we not leap either on Sunday.
But we have a European Cup final to think about. A cup final that we got to by playing actual, passing football.
Stoke, and even Blackburn, will never get to experience such as they only worry about survival. And as a result, they play like we saw today.

I could understand their display at Stoke; at that point they are still battling for long term survival over the course of the season.
But down at the Cottage when they are safe, there was no call what-so-ever for the challenges they made especially as they know all too well we have a final to play.
What are we to do? Put out b-teams against the likes of Stoke, Bolton, Blackburn and Birmingham so that the main squad doesn’t get injured?
