Dammit.
By: timmyg | March 4th, 2009Days like these make you wonder “wait, why am I into this game again?” for so many reasons.
A stomach-punching last minute goal by Manchester United’s loaner Manucho (reason #1) meant Hull City stole all three points, pulled off the double, and, safe to say, made them our other bogey team (reason #2).
Meanwhile the other bogey team, West Ham-Cheating Hooligans United, won on the day and solidified their position at 7th in the table (reason #3 and #4). And Carlton Cole managed to get sent off, screwing up my fantasy team (reason #5). I doubt we’ll be able to surpass them for that hopeful-European spot (reason #6).
And speaking of my fantasy team, Man United conceded a goal to Newcastle also wrecked my defense (reason #7). And Villa was shut out at Man City (reason #8), and Bolton unable to score at Stoke (reason #9).
Speaking of Villa, their recent crapping-of-the-bed and Arsenal’s victory yesterday means the gap between fourth and fifth is just 2 points (reason #10), and the hegemony at the top could remain for another year (reason #11).
Back to the Fulham match, Roy not making a substitution until the 88th minute is mind boggling (reason #12). After about an hour, despite its best efforts and total domination, it was evident that the offense on the field just wasn’t going to produce.
So what to do? Keep off Nevland and bring on Kamara (reason #13). Yeah, makes sense.
Well, it’s just one unfortunate match right? There’s plenty to look forward to, especially Man United coming to town Saturday for the FA Cup (reason #14).
Fulhamish is here to stay after all (reason #15)…

I couldn’t watch the game but followed online. The lack of substitutions struck me as odd, especially as the shot totals disparity started to shrink. It seems that Dempsey is active but just not having his strikes hit home. Hard to be mad when he plays underneath a stiff like Zamora. I’m not sold on Johnson as a finisher either, but I’ll give him more time.
You’re dead-on about Nevland needing minutes and even starts. However, I’m not sure the roster can support two men up front right now. Etuhu seems to impress no one, although I haven’t seen much of his play yet myself. It seems like the only player who could take his place right now is Dacourt, who understandably will benefit from a bit more training with the team. Still, is Dacourt even better than, oh, Jari Litmanen? I think the center midfield is our most glaring hole right now. Let’s bring in Mendieta for a tryout!

I’d disagree with the CM being the biggest hole (but I will give you 100-points for the Mendieta name drop though. What ever happened to him?!?) as Etuhu has shown recently that he has some spark in him, and likes to shoot. He’ll score before the year ends.
And what this year has shown is that its not about the players, especially Bullard. Its about the system.
Last Saturday we saw how well the system works. Today, we saw how it can fail.
Saturday against United, well, we’ll see…
