4 points from Arsenal. Wow.
By: timmyg | March 1st, 2009Well, there was supposed to be a podcast Friday, and in it I forecasted a nil-nil draw. But I forgot the cord at work. So my sterling prediction is rather unverifiable.
This may be the first time ever that Fulham got 4 points and not conceded a goal to Arsenal in a season. Let me write that again so it sinks in: we shut out Arsenal in both games.
Although there were moments where the clean sheet would have disappeared had it not been for Schwarzer’s brilliance, Fulham were no chumps on the day. In fact, they showed some aggressiveness, shockingly, and could have taken all three points.
And for all the praise that Arshavin receives: why was it that Simon Davies ran rampant of the right wing? Or, rather, our entire offense in the last 20 or so minutes operated from that side? I’m just saying…
I’m going to steal some of CCN’s thunder, but the soccernet charts are quite interesting tools. We always hear from the players that they prepare the same for away matches, but cant seem to get results. And if we were to compare two different road matches, away to Sunderland (the dour one) in late January and yesterday’s match (the good one), we’ll see that each person is playing in about the same position.
Sunderland:

Arsenal:
Yet the average position of the players against Arsenal was just slightly more up than against Sunderland. So is that the difference between the two matches, and results? A mere 5 to 10 yards of positioning?
Seems so.
